Determination of the of rate cross slip of screw dislocations

چکیده
The rate for cross slip of screw dislocations during annihilation of screw dipoles in copper is determined by molecular dynamics simulations. The temperature dependence of the rate is seen to obey an Arrhenius behavior in the investigated temperature range: 225-375 K. The activation energy and the effective attempt frequency can therefore be extracted from the simulations. The transition state energy for the annihilation process is calculated by identifying the transition state using the nudged elastic band path technique. The two activation energies agree very well, indicating that transition state theory is applicable for this type of process.

Plasticity of III±V Compounds at Low Temperatures
Plastic deformation of GaAs, InP, and InSb under hydrostatic confining pressure has been performed in the temperature range 77 to 500 K. Slip lines indicate cross-slip of screw dislocations. Electron microscopy reveals long screw dislocations left in the deformed specimens. The temperature dependence of the critical shear stress tc below 300 K is weak, producing a hump in the tc ±T curve. The k...
متن کاملDynamics for Systems of Screw Dislocations
The goal of this paper is the analytical validation of a model of Cermelli and Gurtin [12] for an evolution law for systems of screw dislocations under the assumption of antiplane shear. The motion of the dislocations is restricted to a discrete set of glide directions, which are properties of the material. The evolution law is given by a “maximal dissipation criterion”, leading to a system of ...
متن کاملMechanisms of deformation in gum metal TNTZ-O and TNTZ titanium alloys: A comparative study on the oxygen influence
In this work, Ti–23Nb–0.7Ta–2Zr (TNTZ) and gum metal Ti–23Nb–0.7Ta–2Zr–1.2O (TNTZ-O) alloys were synthesized by cold crucible levitation melting with the objective of investigating the influence of oxygen on the deformation mechanisms. By tensile tests, electron backscatter diffraction, atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analyses, we showed that the deformation in the ...
متن کاملLarge scale atomistic simulations of screw dislocation structure, annihilation and cross-slip in FCC Ni
Using QM-Sutton-Chen many-body potential, we have studied the 1/2a〈1 1 0〉 screw dislocation in nickel (Ni) via molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. We have studied core energy and structure using a quadrupolar dislocation system with 3D periodic boundary conditions. The relaxed structures show dissociation into two partials on {1 1 1} planes. The equilibrium separation distance between the two ...
متن کاملActivated states for cross-slip at screw dislocation intersections in face-centered cubic nickel and copper via atomistic simulation
We extend our recent simulation studies where a screw dislocation in face-centered cubic (fcc) Ni was found to spontaneously attain a low energy partially cross-slipped configuration upon intersecting a forest dislocation. Using atomistic (molecular statics) simulations with embedded atom potentials, we evaluated the activation barrier for a dislocation to transform from fully residing on the g...
